AI answers for SaaS: what your product does, who it's for, and what it costs

People now ask AI assistants the kind of questions they used to type into a search box. For SaaS and software companies they sound like this:

An assistant can only answer well if your own pages state the facts clearly and consistently. Nobody can make an assistant cite you, but you can make yourself hard to get wrong.

Facts to state plainly on your own site

Mix-ups worth checking for

Our why AI gets you wrong guide explains the usual causes behind mix-ups like these.

Structured data: the type to use

Use Organization for the company, plus SoftwareApplication for the product. On schema.org the path is Thing > CreativeWork > SoftwareApplication. Google documents a separate software app rich result with its own required properties.

Example only. Every value below is a placeholder; replace each one with your real, current facts, or leave the property out.

{
  "@context": "https://schema.org",
  "@type": "SoftwareApplication",
  "name": "Example App",
  "applicationCategory": "BusinessApplication",
  "operatingSystem": "Web",
  "url": "https://www.example.com/",
  "offers": {
    "@type": "Offer",
    "price": 0,
    "priceCurrency": "USD"
  },
  "publisher": {
    "@type": "Organization",
    "name": "Example Software Ltd",
    "url": "https://www.example.com/"
  }
}

Do not add ratings about yourself. Google's review snippet documentation limits local business and organization ratings to sites that capture reviews about other businesses (it calls the rest self-serving reviews).

Careful with claims

Google's software app rich result requires a rating or review property. Only add aggregateRating if you have genuine ratings you can show; never make up review counts. The SoftwareApplication markup itself is fine without a rich result.
